Welcome to the

Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board

The Riverway Board was created in 1989 to administer a unique and innovative law to protect the aesthetic integrity of the final 92 miles of the lower Wisconsin River valley. The Riverway encompasses nearly 100,000 acres of public and private lands from Prairie du Sac to Prairie du Chien. The board is composed of nine members: six members from the counties along the river (Dane, Sauk, Iowa, Richland, Grant, and Crawford) and three "at-large" members representing recreational user interests. The agency administers regulations designed to minimize the visual impact of activities when viewed from the river during leaf-on conditions.

Regulations

Permit requirements for structures, timber harvesting, utility facilities, and other regulated activities.
